THOUGHTS FORM BELIEFS
Before a belief system can become a default for us, it must first come into our awareness through a thought. Sometimes we feel the thoughts we think are in control of us rather than us controlling them. This is a statement we’ve been trained into by society, and it couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, we are each in control of our thoughts. We can notice that our emotions, experiences, and belief systems on any subject significantly improve by redirecting the negative perceptions and thought patterns.
In recent weeks, I’ve noticed many scholars and teachers of Psychology discuss the aspect of “disputing” a negative thought pattern. In other words, challenge it when it shows up to train the brain out of the fight or flight response. While I understand the direction they intend with this, the language of disputing or challenging anything seems to further encourage a “let’s fight it” algorithm. Do you notice that we’ve primarily responded this way, and it hasn’t gotten us any further on any subject?
There is a war for everything, yet no battle is ever “successful.” This is because we cannot tackle our problems, emotions, or thoughts to the ground to douse the fire. The momentum some have surrounding the subject of money is a long, sorted tale of scarcity consciousness, and we can’t simply just pluck the plane out of the sky mid-flight. The only way to change thought is to find one that provides more emotional relief than the last in any given moment. After practicing observing thoughts with detachment and redirecting to the next best one, money and anything you give your attention to in this way will improve. It is physics.
Lack is Conditional. Abundance is Unconditional
Lack is the conditional end of the stick, and many tend to approach money with contradictory energy regarding it. In other words, they notice what they do have, and then their thoughts automatically call attention to what they do not (and plummet down this rabbit hole). This contradiction in thinking leads to a contradiction in day-to-day experience.
Those who are emitting a lacking consciousness always have something to complain about, whether it’s unpaid bills, unforeseen expenses that crop up out of nowhere, or a story about someone who has cheated them out of what they feel they deserve. And, unfortunately, whatever they do have is never good enough. More doesn’t come into their experience because they are consistently repelling it with their conditional attitude toward money and their current relationship with it.
Suppose we see money as the root of all evil and prosperity as a limited condition of the human experience that some get to enjoy and some do not. That there is (and never will be) enough to go around. When we view abundance in lack, we remain in a state of disallowance to receiving any form of “more” into our lives. It’s like turning the radio to 99.3 and expecting to hear 105.5. You will inevitably experience something different from what you desire because you are not in tune with what you want. Instead, you are energetically aligned with what you do not.
Abundance, however, is the unconditional end of the stick: our planet, our inner being, life, love, time, are all limitless forms of existence. They are observed through forms but transcend them at the same time. Unfortunately, we’ve talked ourselves into limited constructs and, as a result, formed only partial perspectives of each. These are familiar illusions.
To live an unconditional life, you have to first realize the parts of you that are unconditional, the details of your existence that are unconditional, and then take everyone else (including their thoughts and beliefs about why the opposite is “true”) out of the equation. True abundance can only be realized and lived if the individual believes it is possible. As Dr. Wayne Dyer has said, “when I believe it, I see it.” It really is that simple.
Choosing Prosperous Thoughts and Emotions
Here are some examples of prosperous thoughts and emotions versus those that are contradictory or rooted in lack.
- “I am not responsible for and cannot change my condition because other people and/or circumstances control it/me.” This one comes under the tab of habit. Remember that a belief is a habitually practiced thought, and you can pivot your response and eventually your perception of circumstances.
- “Financial success requires hard work and sacrifice.” Let me say this very gently: NO, IT DOES NOT! This is one of the most prominent myths furthered in humanity. It does take refocusing. Will you make progress with hard work and sacrifice? Yes, eventually, conditionally, and at a turtle’s pace. However, there will always be a limit to your experience if this is your dominant belief because, in its essence, it is an inadequate one. Currency is energy. Aligning your energy aligns you with currency. Aligning with unlimited potentials opens the doorway to limitless experiences. Isn’t that a weightless feeling thought?
- “People with money are greedy and use it to manipulate and control others/me/the planet.” Others are none of your business, and neither is how they use or do not use money. Redirect your focus back onto you and become aware of what you are drawing to yourself with this vibration. What feels good to you? What do you wish to give your undivided attention to? If you had financial freedom right now, how would you feel? How would you be spending your time? Visualize that experience play out. It’s never ever about them. It’s always…always about you.
- “I don’t have enough time to be/do/have all the things that I want.” Your alignment has a direct effect on how you perceive any given experience. If you use this excuse, you will never realize the potential relationship of money to time. You will never understand how little you have to work for all the things you want. If you direct your energy to what you feel you do have enough of (it may require a change of subject altogether at the start), then do that but cultivate the emotion of gratitude. Action alone doesn’t account for the wealth that has been amassed historically or presently on this planet. In this sense, we know there has to be enough time and money. Otherwise, we would not see evidence of it, not in others’ experiences and not in our own.
- “I am a realistic and practical person, and I’m telling it like it is.” Do yourself a favor and speak about how you want it to be instead. Imagine being in the mix of your abundant life. If prosperity were a place, what would it look and feel like? Being factual about what is will only generate more of what is (and many don’t want that). Ask yourself, wouldn’t it be nice if…? (and pair it only with a positive thought and emotion). Face reality from an imaginary angle until a new one is realized. Doing this creates the foundation of the new one!
It’s Not Magic, It’s Focus
The awareness of thought makes change possible; the change of thinking creates a realization and clarifies desire, and the emotion that the idea elicits makes that desire fully understood. This creates any and all narratives about all subjects, people, and situations, including money. The difference between having what we want in life on a physical level or any other depends upon how much attention we give to being grateful for what currently exists. Gratitude for your present situation (no matter what that is) is the basis of how all desire for something greater becomes realized. It’s the juice in the dream, the seed in the sprout.
Desires, at their most basic level, are the driving factors in the formation of ideas. The quality of the thoughts and emotions surrounding those desires either manifest wanted or unwanted outcomes regarding them. Notice where you land on the subject of money. Is it paired with a negative thought pattern/belief? Unless this internal part undergoes a bit of housekeeping, you will continue to attract either consciously or unconsciously those same stories and experiences of lack into your reality. If a change of circumstances is what you are after, change what you have thought and done in previous times (it has only gotten you as far as you are, now).
Learning to approach money with an appreciation for what it does provide (nourishing food for your body, paying bills to services you enjoy using, etc.) will magnetize more of it to you. The difference between where you are and where you want to be lies in smoothing the edges of your perception regarding both places and being content with standing in the land between the two. If you can desire it, you can acquire it. First, however, you must align with all the positive aspects of that dream. Remember, you are constantly evolving along with your desires. When it comes to money, it is about saying and thinking before doing and having.
